The BLM is hosting a National Public Lands Day event at the Salt lick Trailhead on Saturday, September 5 2026. This trail has been in need of repairs for some time and BLM has begun undertaking improvements for visitors. Volunteers at this event can expect to help staff construct box timber stair treads including the use of power drills and hand tools for removing soil. Removing erosion sediment on the trail path in various problematic spots as well as minor reconstruction of the trail path. Also construction of drainage features where the trail switched direction on switchbacks at the initial ascent of the trail. The trail is steep with varying grades of 2%-38% slopes. Good footwear, sun protective clothing, gloves, backpack, and close toes shoes are recommended. Water will be available however volunteers should expect to carry water with them from the trailhead. Tools, and hearing protection will be provided. The trailhead is located approximately 6 miles east of Ten Sleep, WY and immediately north of U.S. Highway 16 across from the Ten Sleep Rock Ranch Campground.
