As an official site of the Grand County Interagency NPLD event the BLM will be partnering with Protect Our Rivers - ProtectOurRivers.org again for 2026; for the Upper Colorado River 18th Annual River Cleanup. This is the 33rd NPLD Interagency event held in Grand County with multiple land management agencies, wildlife agencies, municipalities and Headwaters Trails Alliance providing projects throughout Grand County. This project goal is to provide educational opportunities with Protect Our Rivers for the conservation of rivers and promotion of Leave No Trace ethics for volunteers while conducting trash removal along the Colorado River, recreation areas, river day use and campsite locations. Additional volunteer work may include river related projects on the river corridor and maintenance of campsites along the river. Volunteers will be provided free camping at group sites at both the Pumphouse and Radium Recreation Areas for both Friday and Saturday Nights. Friday Night will include a Welcome Party and Movie Night at the Pumphouse Ramp #3 Pavilion on efforts to protect river ecosystems.  Saturday, after the volunteer clean-up, a volunteer appreciation party is hosted by Protect Our Rivers at the Pumphouse Recreation Area with food, music and awards. Cleanup will be conducted by boats, along river trails and driving along the Colorado Headwaters National Scenic and Historic Byway (Trough Road). Volunteers should provide their own transportation and floatation when possible. Space for those not having boats is limited and dependent on other volunteers boat space and limited space on BLM boats. Those not having boats but wanting to float the river are recommended to register early for this event and identify if they are interested in floating the river and need a space(s) on an agencies or volunteers' boat for the day. We will do our best to get those wanting to be floating on the river onto a boat, but is dependent on space available.
