Morning Shift: Haloda Point (7:00 AM – 11:00 AM)

Volunteers will assist with maintenance efforts at Haloda Point, a scenic coastal location within War in the Pacific National Historical Park overlooking Asan Bay and Asan Ridge.

Tasks may include:

• Moving and organizing rocks and natural materials from the shoreline area
• Assisting the maintenance team with loading rocks for transport to Asan Beach Park to support a future park improvement project
• Clearing debris and maintaining the area following recent storms
• General site cleanup and resource stewardship

This work may involve lifting, carrying, and moving heavy materials. Volunteers should be prepared for physically demanding outdoor work in Guam’s warm and humid conditions.

Afternoon Shift: Piti Guns Emplacement (1:00 PM – 4:00 PM)

Volunteers will continue restoration efforts at the historic Piti Guns Emplacement, home to three Japanese coastal defense guns that were positioned during World War II. Recent typhoons have heavily impacted the site, with fallen trees, storm debris, and vegetation affecting trails and visitor access.

Projects may include:

• Trail maintenance and clearing storm debris
• Removing invasive plant species
• Cleaning and restoring interpretive signs
• Clearing overgrown vegetation around historic features
• Removing fallen branches and trees
• Brush cutting and tree removal support (including chainsaw work by qualified personnel, if needed)
• General site cleanup and beautification

Volunteer Requirements

This opportunity is intended for adults (18+) who enjoy working outdoors and are comfortable with moderate to strenuous physical activity. Tasks may include:

• Walking on uneven terrain
• Bending, lifting, and carrying materials
• Moving rocks and storm debris
• Using hand tools
• Working in hot and humid weather conditions

No prior experience is required. National Park Service staff will provide safety instructions, task assignments, tools, and guidance. Qualified personnel will handle specialized equipment such as cutters. 

Please bring:

• Closed-toe shoes or work boots
• Long pants
• Sun protection
• Reusable water bottle
• Work gloves (recommended)
