West Well Dunes Cleanup Event
The West Well Dunes Area is a popular OHV area in Carlsbad, NM. Many recreationists have left trash behind, and trash has blown in from surrounding areas. Broken shade structures, cans, and other garbage has marred these beautiful dunes. Because of this, the Bureau of Land Management and City of Carlsbad are facilitating a cleanup event on National Public Lands Day to improve this beautiful recreation area.

On Saturday, September 27 from 8:00 AM-11:00 AM, the Bureau of Land Management (Carlsbad Field Office) and City of Carlsbad are hosting a cleanup event at West Well Dunes (known by locals as Anadarko Dunes). This popular OHV area has beautiful rolling hills of sand and vegetation. The meeting point will be the area slightly north of the dunes at the coordinates 32.573280, -103.612891. Google Maps has the location marked as Anadarko Sand Dunes.

The National Environmental Education Foundation's theme for NPLD this year is "Our Home Outdoors". This is a reminder that these lands are not just physical spaces—they are where we come together, feel rooted, and develop a sense of place.  We are grateful for your time and energy towards improving our shared home.

The schedule of the event will include time for volunteers to sign the Volunteer Service Agreement, a safety discussion and event overview, and then we will transition into the cleanup!

Wear clothing pieces you are comfortable being active in. Water, snacks, and cleanup/protective supplies will be provided. Bring sun protection, any necessary medications (e.g., epinephrine, inhaler), and a water bottle. Note: If you are under the age of 18 years old, a parent/guardian signature is required. Those under 16 years of age must have a parent/guardian present with them at the event.
