The Prairie Care program is working to diversify 500 acres of prairie at Wild River. We collect seeds from about 80 species of prairie plants each year and make seed mixes to spread after prescribed burns. Join us for a couple hours of seed collection. No experience is necessary.

Please help us restore Patoka Lake’s shoreline to its natural state of beauty and cleanliness for wildlife safety and water quality. Bring your family, friends, organizations or coworkers. What You’ll Do: An old fence that once prevented resource damage and defined the Storm King campsites has deteriorated. Volunteers are needed to remove the old fence and construct a new one in the same area. The purpose of the fence is to prevent campers and cattle from trampling across the vegetation, allowing natural vegetation to flourish and improve the aesthetics of this popular campground.

Saturday, we rise to restore Giant Rock through trash and tag removal.

Shoreline clean up at Flat Rock Park in Waco, TX with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and GTG Outdoors. Volunteers needed to remove trash from the shoreline and surrounding area by kayak or on foot. Supplies are provided, but kayaks are first come, first served.

This event will be to support out planting in a restoration area along the North Side Canal in the Minidoka National Historic Site Cultural Landscape.

The Shawnee National Forest is partnering up with River to River Society and Friends of the Shawnee National Forest for a Trash Blast and graffiti removal volunteer event at Garden of the Gods Wilderness. Volunteers will break into small teams to collect litter and remove vandalism from selected sites. Come ready to make a visible impact with other land stewards by giving back to a forest we all love and cherish.

Help the Sand Flats crew clean up the busiest recreation area near Moab.

Volunteers will help BLM river rangers pursue invasive weeds within the canyon. They will also find and haul any trash that has accumulated in the canyon throughout the season. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is sponsoring an event to enhance the Good Water Rim Trail and discourage off‑route travel.

Join the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for a community volunteer day focused on improving the Wood Hill Bike Trail System. Volunteers will help clear debris, perform essential trail maintenance, and remove trash to enhance the quality and accessibility of this popular local recreation area. The BLM will provide equipment for hauling and disposing of refuse, and participants are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes and gloves and bring a rake or shovel. This event offers a great opportunity to connect with fellow outdoor enthusiasts and make a positive impact on our local trails and environment.

Gateway Arch National Park, Gateway Arch Park Foundation, Republic Services, Missouri Stream Team, Great Rivers Greenway, Living Lands & Waters, and the City of St. Louis have partnered to organize a community trash pick-up event on National Public Lands Day, Saturday, September 26th from 9 a.m. - noon. Celebrate National Public Lands Day in the unique landscape of Joshua Tree National Park! Volunteers will perform trail delineation on a popular park trail to preserve the beauty and accessibility of the park's trails.

Join us as we honor our shared lands through hands-on stewardship projects across Red Rock Canyon. Volunteers can take part in a Canyon Cleanup at Red Spring, removing litter from the boardwalk, trails, parking areas, and picnic sites to help protect the area’s natural resources. Those interested in observation and photography can participate in a Photo-blitz at Red Spring, documenting plants, wildlife, geology, visitor use, and stewardship actions — with contributions supporting a public photo book, the Red Rock Canyon digital library, and iNaturalist. Volunteers may also assist with Snail Collection at Willow Springs, removing invasive decollate snails to help restore habitat health. A Trail Project will also be offered (location TBD), involving trail maintenance such as rock work, raking, digging, and tool-based tasks.

Together, these projects reflect a shared commitment to conservation and community — truly Celebrating the Triumph of the American Spirit.

The Bureau of Land Management Arcata Field Office and Emerald Triangle Off Road invite the public to a free family-friendly Poker Run at the Samoa Dunes Recreation Area in celebration of National Public Lands Day.

Celebrate 250 years of American Independence with the BLM! Join us for some trail work at Dean S. Reservoir and make a lasting impact on your public lands. All ages welcome! Bring your work gloves, plenty of water and sunscreen. Lunch will be provided!

In partnership with the Yosemite Climbing Association, the National Park Service puts on this five-day event each September, in celebration of National Public Lands Day. In 2019 over 2,000 volunteers cleaned up 16,429 pounds of debris from the park. The 2020 event was a virtual celebration, challenging participants to Act Local in their own communities. In 2021, the event was modified and held partly in-person, with 771 participants. Yosemite had over 1,501 volunteers in 2023 and 1,337 volunteers in 2024. Last year in 2025, over 1,400 volunteers served 13,000+ hours and cleaned up 15,290 pounds of debris in the park!

Volunteers will gather at the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area to restore trails and vegetation as we wrap up the GAOA Shoreline Restoration Project.

J. Percy Priest Lake is hosting its National Public Lands Day event 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 2026, at Anderson Road Day Use Area. We will be partnering with several organizations and clubs from the Nashville area. Once volunteers are registered, we will break into groups and take a short pontoon ride to Bear, Raccoon, Pig, Hole-in-the-Wall, and several other islands to help remove trash. All ages are welcome, but this may be slightly vigorous.

The Havasu National Wildlife Refuge is hosting its annual kayak clean up. Kayakers will be aided by motor boats as they remove trash from the shores of Lake Havasu from Castle Rock Bay to Mesquite Bay.

Local Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) clubs begin at both ends of Phantom Canyon and drive their OHVs along the roads and clean up litter along the way.

The actual events are yet to be determined, but plans will be made to hold an event on BLM lands.

On Sept. 26, 2026, we will hold our annual cleanup with registration beginning at 0800 am and cleanup starting at 0900 am at all USACE day use locations. Clean up ends at 1200 noon and is followed by free lunch and tee shirts at the after party which will be held at the Nature Center 1850 Carters Dam Road, Chatsworth, Ga.

Join FoLAR (Friends of the LA River), RecLA, San Fernando Valley Audubon Society and the US Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District for an NPLD/Habitat Restoration Day/World Rivers Day event!

Volunteers are needed to help with event set-up (7 a.m. - 10 a.m.): putting up tables, chairs, pop-up tents, and activity station supplies. Running hands-on art and educational activity stations for visitors of all ages. Shifts available between 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Clean-up (4 p.m. - 6 p.m.): packing activity supplies, folding chairs, tables, pop-up tents, and picking up trash. Volunteers can catch a free shuttle to/from the event at the Hawks Prairie Park-N-Ride, 2548 Hogum Bay Road NE, Olympia.

Volunteers will begin the day by participating in a bird-watching hike, then gear up for a road-side litter clean-up in the Brandywine Valley unit of First State National Historical Park.

Mount Rainier National Park is hosting a trail project on National Public Lands Day! Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. at the Historic Longmire Gas Station. After a welcome and safety briefing at 8:30, you will be on your way!

Volunteers should come prepared for any kind of weather, with warm clothing, rain gear, sturdy footwear, and gloves. Sunglasses, sunscreen, and hats are also recommended. Volunteers should also bring water, snacks, and a lunch.

Join us at Big Lagoon State Park for National Public Lands Day and enjoy learning about butterflies with Butterflies in Motion.

USACE will be placing a total of 100 "crappie cubes" within a several acre acrea around the Indian Creek Recreation Area Hike-in shoreline of Mark Twain Lake. The structures are a 4X4X4 ft cube made from mostly PVC and drain pipe. The structures will be located on the Spalding boat ramp. USACE will have a representative on site to show the exact placement of the structure into the water from the boat. Once the structure is placed, the process will be repeated until all 100 cubes are submerged. We encourage volunteers to help with the project with loading on the boat ramp or assisting with placement by shuttling structures with their personal boat.

In celebration of the recently designated Chuckwalla National Monument, BLM's Palm Springs South Coast Field Office will host a National Public Lands Day event at Cottonwood Springs. Our goal is to not only educate our volunteers of the significance of the Chuckwalla National Monument but also to improve upon the recreational opportunities there. Additionally, Cottonwood Springs serves as the WWII historical site Camp Young, so we will provide an overview of this history as part of our clean up efforts.

Join rangers from the Bureau of Land Management's Palm Springs - South Coast Field Office and from the Wildlands Conservancy Whitewater Preserve in cleaning up popular sections of the Whitewater River. Designated as a Wild and Scenic River, the Whitewater River flows through the San Bernadino Mountains and San Gorgonio Wilderness into the Coachella Valley and is one of the most visited recreation areas during the summer months. We will bring the community together to learn Leave No Trace principles and put these skills into practice as stewards of the Whitewater Canyon ACEC and Whitewater Preserve.

Indiana Dunes National Park is hosting a beach clean-up for National Public Lands Day. Join us for a morning of stewardship.

Do you dig plants? If so, join Laguna Canyon Foundation for a morning of creating healthier habitats at the 18-acre Berns Canyon Preserve! LCF volunteers and staff will work together on various stewardship activities, including hand-weeding non-native plants, hand watering, seed collection, and planting. No experience is necessary, and all are welcome to come learn and tend to these habitats together. All tools are provided for volunteers.

Join Laguna Canyon Foundation and OC Parks during our habitat restoration stewardship events in Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park as we learn and work together to create a healthier home for the native plants and wildlife that call this area their home. Help us fix up Blue Blazes!  The Blue Blazes Still was the site of a 1929 raid on an industrial moonshining facility. Today, the Blue Blazes Still Trail is our most accessible trail from the park visitor center. Volunteers will remove and replace old fencing around visitor center parking lot and Blue Blazes exhibit area. PPE will be provided and pre-registration is required.

We are partnering with the Bureau of Land Management to address impacts around the Tin Can Flats primitive camping area.
These impacts include cleaning campfire rings, picking up trash, and raking out tracks left by vehicles traveling off designated roads. Our Tin Can Flat days are full of teamwork, great discussions, and making a big difference on the ground! Happy Public Lands Day! This is the same weekend as the Escalante Canyons Arts Festival so you can help beautify the monument in the morning and enjoy art in the afternoon!

Join staff at Colonial National Historical Park to care for and restore historic earthworks at Yorktown Battlefield! This event will take place from 8:30 to 11:30 AM on Saturday, September 26th. Volunteers should expect to participate in moderate physical activity outdoors -- this event is not suitable for volunteers under the age of 18.

General clean-up around the Goodwin Education Center and nearby areas.

Volunteers will assist park staff with the removal of downed vegetation at Fort Jones—a fully enclosed earthwork that anchored the Defenses at Camp Nelson at Hickman Creek during the Civil War.

Come join the Bureau of Land Management, Kemmerer Field Office bring back beaver dams (BDA's) to the once thriving oasis of Leavitt Creek! Situated above Poverty Flats overlooking the town of Mountain View in the Bridger Valley, this isolated segment of stream has remnants of historic beaver activity and a rare wildlife skeleton still stuck in beaver dam sediment. Come see all the incredible and beautiful things about this creek and help BLM restore some of its lost attributes.
Directions: Meet at the northeast corner of Benedicts Market parking lot. From Mountain View take HWY410 towards Robertson, turn left at CR283 south towards the mountains 4.5 miles, turn left onto CR269 for 2.3 miles then stay right 0.2 miles through fenceline, turn left and follow the blue flagging for 3.0 miles and park. Continue following the blue flagging on foot 0.3 miles.

This event will support the US Army Corps of Engineers at Whitney Lake in our efforts to clean up the Nolan River Boat Ramp and the surrounding shoreline.

Annual California condor release at Vermilion Cliffs National Monument

Come help cleanup the lone BLM section north of Laramie, WY. This section is an excellent source of public lands recreation, but has unfortunately been polarized as a place to dump trash and disgard shooting debris. Common Outdoor Group (COG) is the host of this event and usually provides lunch and other items pertinent to picking up garbage. Usually 12-25 participants show up for this event and is a great place to meet other recreators.

Join Olympic National Park and Friends of Olympic National Park in celebrating National Public Lands Day through hands-on stewardship at the Port Angeles Visitor Center. Volunteers will help maintain the pollinator garden and surrounding grounds by weeding, deadheading, and mulching, contributing to a healthy landscape for wildlife and an inviting experience for visitors.

The U.S. Forest Service, its research branch, the International Institute of Tropical Forestry (IITF), and El Yunque National Forest, with the support of the Friends of El Yunque Foundation, are joining together to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Proclamation of the El Yunque Forest Reserve. As part of this milestone celebration, National Public Lands Day (NPLD) will be incorporated to bring together conservation, community service, and environmental education activities that highlight the historical, ecological, and cultural significance of this iconic forest.

This year’s event takes place Saturday, September 27 on the Quaker side of the park. We have numerous volunteer projects in the works with something for everyone to participate! The day will start off with Check-in/Registration from 9:00-9:30 at the Quaker Museum. Service Projects will be from 9:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m., followed by a picnic lunch at the Quaker Picnic Pavilion at 1:00 p.m. Participants are asked to come dressed for the weather and expect to get dirty. This event will be held rain or shine.

Join Great River Greening in restoring native habitat at Hazelnut Park, a well-loved community park. Volunteers will help enhance the urban forest understory by planting native shrubs and wildflowers in areas where invasive buckthorn has been removed. The Prescott National Forest needs volunteers to assist with streambank stabilization work. We will be implementing loose rock structures on the landscape and in-stream systems to stabilize and improve the watershed. Come out and learn what we are talking about.

Build trail tread, waterbars, rock stairs, cut back brush and remove debris. The goal is to finish the last mile of the Sheltowee Trace Trail.

Volunteers will work together to revitalize the plaza area at Milford Beach, including tasks such as weeding, planting, pruning, and more!

Volunteers will collect trash and complete other projects at West Point Lake from 8am-1pm.

National Public Lands Day - 2026 Meet at the Visitor Center at the San Joaquin River Gorge Recreation Area to help maintain and renovate the Discovery Trail and Nature Trail. We'll clean up the Discovery Trail creek bed and surrounding area. The Nature Trail also needs brushing and tread work. After the work is done, please stay for an exciting interpretive program with the prehistoric atlatl!

The Tonopah Field Office for the Bureau of Land Management in cooperation with UNR Extension and the Town of Tonopah will be hosting a cleanup event along the sides of the road near the old Pirate Mine located in Tonopah, Nevada. We will be cleaning up the trash along the sides of the road after the corner where Dynamite Road meets Waterline Road while learning about the local plants and wildlife there as well. Gloves, trash bags, and some trash grabbers will be provided. Snacks and water will also be provided throughout the route.

Join Desert National Wildlife Refuge staff for a morning of habitat restoration in the largest protected area in Nevada!

This is the 25th annual Trinity River Clean Up! This clean up will support the removal of trash within the Trinity River, on the shoreline, and along the adjacent highways to allow trash to be picked up by foot or boat. The event will be coordinated between agency partners, non-profit collaborators, and volunteers within the community. Participants can join the fun via their own watercraft or within one provided by the coordinators and partners of this event!

Participants will work alongside park staff to rehabilitate areas near development. The work might include pulling non-native plants and moving material such as rotted logs.

Canaveral National Seashore invites the public to join the International Coastal Cleanup. Once a year, all over the world, millions of volunteers, who love the ocean and want to protect it, take this day to really make a difference. Help clean up the roads around Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge.

Lost Valley Trail Maintenance

The BLM will host a invasive species removal to benefit the unique habitat at Aravaipa Creek. The target species for removal is vinca, a invasive weed that smothers and crowds out native riparian plants.

The location will be near the East Aravaipa Trailhead at Bear Canyon. There is a parcel of BLM managed land that contains a section of the creek. BLM will supply tool, supplies, drinks, and a light lunch for volunteers.

Cascade Falls Picnic Site needs an immediate "facelift" to accommodate visitor expectations and create an improved visitor experience. This all-day project is planned for multiple volunteer groups. The activities include painting a toilet facility and nearby picnic shelters, removing an old / outdated bulletin board, replacing signs and updating day-use area signs, and raking / grading multiple gravel pathways.

Join us in protecting public lands in Arches National Park by picking up litter and keeping this stunning landscape clean!

Rocky Mountain Field Institute (RMFI) will lead a weekend of trail maintenance stewardship.

BLM OHV Rangers will be leading a project to construct an OHV offloading ramp.

Salt Lick campground volunteer opportunites will include tree planting and litter pick up. Defeated Creek Park will have tree planting, bench slat replacement, new bench installs and trail improvments on the bike trail.

For 2026, we will conduct one-day volunteer opportunities as part of our Fall Fiesta event. Volunteer activities will include constructing bumper logs and picking up litter/debris along New Mexico State Road 4.

Hot Springs National Park will host students from Arkansas School for Mathematics Science and the Arts for a graffiti abatement project on Hot Springs Mountain.

Genevieve National Historical Park will be working together with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the City of Ste. When visitors arrive at a clean campsite, they are more likely to want to keep it clean for the next visitors. For 2026, we'll be cleaning up dispersed camping areas in La Plata Canyon.

We'll have some friendly competition to see who can collect the most litter, artistically naturalize a fire ring, find the most interesting piece of trash, etcetera. Lunch and prizes are included.

Come join park biologists and volunteer stewards for a Stewardship Saturday at TBD Island for National Public Lands Day! Help us control non-native invasive plants and enhance native ecosystems and natural processes in the park. We will explore the local flora and fauna and discuss the ecology, natural history, and cultural significance of landscapes in the park as we work to understand and improve habitat for the native birds, bugs, trees, and flowers of the Boston Harbor Islands.

Roll up your sleeves and join Santa Cruz Mountains Trails Stewardship and the BLM Central Coast Field Office for a fun day of giving back at Cotoni-Coast Dairies! We’ll pull weeds, spruce up trails and trailheads—and have a great time caring for this spectacular public land together.

Join TKO on one of our Back Country Service Trips! Spend 3 days cutting vegetation/working on the trail surface while in the wilderness. We will spend three days (two nights) brushing and fixing the tread (surface of the trail) along this 3.5 mile trail. Day 1 we will hike to the bottom and set up base camp, have lunch and do afternoon trail work. Day 2 we will hike up the trail and work on tread and brush. Day 3 we will pack up camp and slowly hike our way out while working along the way.

Want to be a part of Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller’s conservation story? Join park staff to collect dragonfly larvae for the Dragonfly Mercury Project, a nationwide community science effort to better understand mercury pollution in rivers, lakes, and streams.

Assist in our preparation for fall prescribed burns! We will move woody debris into piles to reduce the risk of wildfires on the Refuge.

In celebration of National Public Lands Day, join us for our Habitat Restoration drop-in on Saturday, Sept. 26, to improve habitat for native plants and wildlife. Our habitat restoration efforts could include invasive plant removal and/or native plantings. The National Public Lands Day (NPLD) volunteer event will focus on preserving the ADA-accessible trails adjacent to the Visitors Center. P4SS Afterschool Program participants from Wilbur Wright and Denison schools will travel to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park to plant trees and/or removal of non-native plants on NPLD. Prior to the day of the service program students will learn about the importance of planting trees, native species and non-native species. They will also learn about the impact small changes can have on an ecosystem.

Friends of Nevada Wilderness is looking for dedicated volunteers to help pick up trash near a spring site location in the Rainbow Gardens Area of Critical Environmental Concern. Come help keep this water source protected and clean for future generations. This area is a part of the larger proposed East Las Vegas National Monument.

The Oregon Council of Rock and Mineral Clubs will lead cleanup efforts at the Hampton Butte Rockhound Site to fill holes and level disturbed areas using shovels and rakes. The site is famous for green petrified wood and has been extensively dug for many years.

Volunteers at Zion National Park will be removing invasive tamarisk plants from the Wild and Scenic Virgin River. Tamarisk, also known as Salt Cedar, can alter water availability and riparian habitat for native plants, so it is an important target for removal.

We're building an accessible trail from the Brainard Lake camping and overflow parking areas around the lake to the ADA picnic areas and trailheads.

Come volunteer at National Capital Parks - East!

Volunteers will help collect and clean pine cones for future reforestation efforts. Certified chainsaw sawyers will cut a limited number of trees. Volunteers will
then collect pine cones from the downed trees and sort and clean them so they can be sent to a nursery for seed extraction and germination.

Join the Forest Service, Indian Peaks Wilderness Alliance, and others for a mini tabling fair at the Historic Hessie Cabin. Stop by prior to your hike to learn more about the different stewardship efforts that are happening in the area. Each booth will have interactive activities and an opportunity to get a National Public Lands Day voucher. Just interested in hiking? Our ranger will do a mini-guided hike at 9:45 a.m. from the shuttle drop-off area near the cabin.

From September 24–27, 2026, the AZT VETS Program and The Outdoor Muster will rally at East Rim Viewpoint for a Veteran Volunteer Work Weekend centered on service, stewardship, and the military community’s enduring ability to show up when the mission matters.

Taking place over National Public Lands Day, this season-opening operation will support general trail maintenance, drainage improvements, brushing, and tread work across one of Arizona’s most extraordinary—and newly vulnerable—landscapes.

Join park staff and subject matter experts from around the community as we tag monarch butterflies for MonarchWatch.org. The event will be on the park’s north prairie off Smokey Hollow Road. Learn more about the prairies and other pollinators as well.

When visitors arrive at a clean campsite, they are more likely to want to keep it clean for the next visitors. We'll have some friendly competition to see who can collect the most litter, artistically naturalize a fire ring, find the most interesting piece of trash, etcetera.

35th Annual Community Cleanup, fun for the entire family!

We will be cleaning up the area around the Big Lake Visitor center and Big Lake on the Springerville Ranger District of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. We will be painting, picking up trash and other small maintenance tasks. This is a very popular area and the Visitor Center is a historic building that is one of the center pieces of the Big Lake Recreation Area.

Project to clean up and make improvements at park.

This event will include both Natural and Cultural Resources activities. Natural Resources activities include care for two endangered plant sites by removing invasive plants, installing weed barriers, and planting native plants. Cultural resources activities include removing invasive vegetation at Nioiula Heiau, an ancient Hawaiian temple, and stabilizing the site walls. Native Hawaiian cultural practitioners will discuss the significance of this site with volunteers.

Norris Lake Project team will lead a group paddle (bring your own or reserve one) on Norris Reservoir. Participants will learn to recognize naturalized pollinator plants along the shoreline; learn about the impact of erosion on fish habitats, be made aware of eagle nesting areas on Norris, and each paddler will be encouraged to bag “end of season litter”  

Volunteers are invited to join our Partners in Conservation to clean up Trace Creek in support of National Public Lands Day. The shoreline cleanup event is scheduled for Wednesday, September 23rd. Please check in by 9:30am. Event will run until 2pm. Join us to board boats at Pebble Isle Marina to clear trash from the shores of Trace Creek. This area was severely impacted by debris from the 2021 Humphreys County Flood and is still recovering. Without cleanup efforts, this flood debris will remain and present an environmental threat to wildlife, degrade into microplastics, and negatively impact the viewshed adjacent Pebble Isle Marina.

Join us at the Little Cedar Mountain Trail to learn about the history of the trail and unique birds and plants. We will have a short overview of the trail and then spend the rest of the morning cleaning up the trailhead, trimming vegetation, and doing light trailwork. Bring water, snacks, and wear closed-toe shoes and gloves. Lunch will be provided. Meet at the main trailhead parking lot.

Join us in celebrating National Public Lands Day with the Bureau of Land Management! Fishtrap Lake is a beautiful area of impressive lakeshore cliffs, giant whirlpool holes carved in rock (kolks!) and upland shrub steppe. Over the past several years we have helped to construct a new trail system to give hikers, equestrians and mountain bikers access to these wonders. We will help with some annual trail maintenance needs during this work party.

Assist with planting shrubs around wildlife guzzler to replenish what was burned in the Dixon's Pond Wildfire. Along with fence repair and removal of old fenceline along with any trash within the area.

Volunteers will be cutting willow stakes from Boxelder boat ramp and then planting them at the Bradfield campground which was damaged from the Ferris Fire.

The Mount Airy Forest Advisory Council hosts TrailFest, an annual celebration of the outdoors. Featuring vendors and non-profit organizations that share a passion for nature and sustainability. Organized hikes, trails runs, biking events & activities, live music, food trucks, beer, silent auction, a dedicated kids area, a craft zone for all ages and educational programs about important environmental topics.

Celebrate this nation-wide day with us at Twin Lakes State Park by helping keep the park beautiful by ridding it of litter. Meet at the Discovery Center to pick up a trash grabber and bag or bucket any time between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. This is a free parking day for all Virginia State Parks.
