Wilson's Creek National Battlefield is looking for participants in our first National Public Lands Day event. Whether you're a member of a youth organization or a family or an individual looking to connect with the national park in your backyard, you can protect one of America's hallowed grounds.
(This event has been rescheduled to 10/25) This morning event will focus on trail clean-up, assisting with repair of landscaping damaged in spring and early summer severe weather and removal of garbage from creekside areas near trails and from areas of heavy visitor use like Bloody Hill. Wilsons Creek itself is an important tributary of the James River and an important riparian area in the suburban landscape outside of Springfield. Your work can help to protect the site of the second major battle of the Civil War and to improve visitor experiences as they walk among positions and lines of battle from the deadliest conflict in American history.

Sitting at over 4,000 ft, Kaʻala is home to native endemic Hawaiian plants and animals, such Hawaiian honeycreepers, kāhuli (tree snails), pinao (dragonfly), orchids, and lobelias. It is the tallest puʻu (peak) on Oʻahu and can be very difficult to traverse on via public hiking trail. In continuation of the first NPLD workday in September, this workday will focus on completing the rebuild of the boardwalk. Participants will be tasked to complete final touch ups to the boardwalk and some invasive weed control. At the end of the day, participants will have an opportunity to explore the boardwalk and native species in the area.

Environmental stewardship is a key component of the Bellows Air Force Station mission. The project 'Mālama
Bellows Air Force Station (BAFS) - Restore Wetlands and Coastal Dunes' will be composed of four main tasks:
1) Remove Invasive Species- Protect Native Pollinators, 2) Out-plant Native Pollinator Flora, 3) Outreach-
Install Educational Signage and Temporary Fencing Around Restoration Areas, 4) Protect Stream Edge/
Riparian- Plastic and Trash Cleanup. The proposed projects directly benefit endangered and protected native
Hawaiian species, including waterbirds, pollinators, and sea turtles. The restoration activities will support the

This project focuses on the removal of invasive plant species and the restoration of native vegetation through the planting of container-grown native plants and wildflower seeding for the specific benefit of the Endangered Quino checkerspot butterfly (QCB), as well as other native pollinators. Invasive species are a major threat to local ecosystems, often outcompeting native plants and disrupting wildlife habitats. By removing these harmful plants and reintroducing native species, we aim to restore the ecological balance of the area, promote biodiversity, and improve pollinator habitat.
