The Blue Blaze Festival is a celebration of the trail, whether you are a Trail Runner, Hiker or would like to learn more about backpacking you are welcome to be a part of our celebration of the Buckeye Trail. Join us for the 2026 Buckeye Trail (BT) Blue Blaze Festival and explore the diversity and beauty of the outdoors. Again this year we will be joining forces with Destination Shawnee, the Tecumseh Theater and outdoor recreational organizations to bring together runners, hikers and outdoor enthusiasts to the Village of Shawnee. This section of the Buckeye Trail, in the Wayne National Forest, is mostly single-track trail and provides some very challenging terrain.

Join Green Neighbors Network for a community day at Kirby Park! We’ll clean up, weed, plant, and refresh trails and green spaces.

Enjoy vendor tents, kids’ activities, and family-friendly fun while helping us care for our public lands. Tools, gloves, water, and snacks will be provided.

The Oshtemo Friends of the Parks invites the community to help improve the Disc Golf Course at Oshtemo Township Park on Saturday September 27 from 9am-1pm.

What You’ll Do: An old fence that once prevented resource damage and defined the Storm King campsites has deteriorated. Volunteers are needed to remove the old fence and construct a new one in the same area. The purpose of the fence is to prevent campers and cattle from trampling across the vegetation, allowing natural vegetation to flourish and improve the aesthetics of this popular campground.

Friday at 3 PM, we start elephant snot application to prep graffiti for removal.
Friday evening, enjoy a free screening and camp out.
Saturday, we rise to restore Giant Rock through trash and tag removal.

Shoreline clean up at Flat Rock Park in Waco, TX with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and GTG Outdoors. Volunteers needed to remove trash from the shoreline and surrounding area by kayak or on foot. Supplies are provided, but kayaks are first come, first served.

This event will be to support out planting in a restoration area along the North Side Canal in the Minidoka National Historic Site Cultural Landscape.

The Shawnee National Forest is partnering up with River to River Society and Friends of the Shawnee National Forest for a Trash Blast and graffiti removal volunteer event at Garden of the Gods Wilderness. Volunteers will break into small teams to collect litter and remove vandalism from selected sites. Come ready to make a visible impact with other land stewards by giving back to a forest we all love and cherish.

Help the Sand Flats crew clean up the busiest recreation area near Moab.

Help trail builders from Grand County Active Transportation and Trails, Grand County Trail Mix and BLM build out the Mud Spring bike trail system south of the city of Moab, Utah.

Celebrate National Public Lands Day as well as Freedom 250 and be a steward of the White Mountains National Recreation Area! Learn about riparian habitat rehabilitation and restoration revegetation techniques. Collect and plant native Alaskan willow stakes and native riparian plant seeds to help rehabilitate the scars of mining in the Nome Creek Floodplain. Celebrate National Public Lands Day by giving back and participating in the Dale Hollow Lake Shoreline Clean-up.

Join the Mount St. Helens Institute for a day of cleaning and improving the well-traveled and loved Lakes Trail around Coldwater Lake! We will spend the day doing some light brushing, retreading, and picking up litter as well as learning more about the eruptive history of Mount St. Helens and the continued effects of the 1980 eruption, which created several lakes, such as Coldwater.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is sponsoring an event to enhance the Good Water Rim Trail and discourage off‑route travel.

Join the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for a community volunteer day focused on improving the Wood Hill Bike Trail System. Volunteers will help clear debris, perform essential trail maintenance, and remove trash to enhance the quality and accessibility of this popular local recreation area. The BLM will provide equipment for hauling and disposing of refuse, and participants are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes and gloves and bring a rake or shovel. This event offers a great opportunity to connect with fellow outdoor enthusiasts and make a positive impact on our local trails and environment.

Gateway Arch National Park, Gateway Arch Park Foundation, Republic Services, Missouri Stream Team, Great Rivers Greenway, Living Lands & Waters, and the City of St. Louis have partnered to organize a community trash pick-up event on National Public Lands Day, Saturday, September 26th from 9 a.m. - noon. Recruit your friends and family members and join us in lending a helping hand and cleaning up the riverfront!

All volunteers will receive materials to help them stay safe such as litter pickers (limited supply), trash bags, and gloves.

After the clean-up, explore the park and enjoy a day full of service projects and fun events for the whole family to celebrate National Public Lands Day!
