NPLD for Volunteers
Volunteers are key to the success of the National Public Lands Day (NPLD) celebration. Each year, hundreds of thousands of volunteers come together on the fourth Saturday in September to complete various service projects designed to improve parks, forests, waterways, community gardens, and other public lands sites across the country.
Fee-Free Entrance Day
In celebration of National Public Lands Day, this coming Saturday, September 26, has been designated as a Fee-Free Day by the National Park Service and other participating federal agencies. This means that on National Public Lands Day, the fees to enter any of the National Park System’s 418 parks are waived. This also includes admission into sites managed by the Bureau of Land Management, the Department of Defense, US Army Corps of Engineers, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and US Forest Service.
More Ways to Connect to Nature
Spending time in nature offers one of the most reliable boosts to mental and physical well-being. National Public Lands Day is a great opportunity to get outside and care for public lands while meeting new people in your community and sharing memorable experiences with your friends and family.
However, even if you are not able to physically attend an NPLD event, you can still connect to iconic parks, national forests, marine estuaries, and other public lands sites through one-of-a-kind virtual events such as ranger talks, virtual hikes and dives, and online citizen science projects.
