NEEF, in partnership with Samsung Electronics America and the EPA’s ENERGY STAR® program, hosted the Climate Superstars Challenge, an online competition for middle school classrooms across the U.S. The platform was especially valuable during the 2020 COVID pandemic, allowing students to participate from home.
During the month of October, classrooms completed daily activities designed to educate students about energy production, consumption, and efficiency. Classrooms that completed all tasks were included in a drawing to receive prizes including educational technology from Samsung.
To further engage students, AY Young, a musician and advocate for global energy sustainability, created an educational task and video about solar energy. The excitement peaked when he brought his Battery Tour to the grand prize-winning school for an exclusive concert powered entirely by renewable energy.
Using music to teach and inspire healthy behaviors, Hip Hop Public Health (HHPH), the globally award-winning nonprofit co-founded by renowned neurologist, Dr. Olajide Williams and hip hop icon Doug E. Fresh, joined forces with the NEEF to launch EMPOWER, a groundbreaking multimedia educational initiative. This collection features eight original songs and animated videos designed to motivate young people with asthma to actively manage their health using evidence-based techniques.
The EMPOWER series showcases the talents of rising artists like rapper Devin Cheff and singer Heaven White, with music produced by multi-platinum producer Q. Worthy, who co-wrote the tracks with BJ Gray and Devin Cheff.
Viewed by thousands, these engaging videos are inspiring and educating young audiences, empowering them to take control of their asthma management.
