Promotional Language (for e-blasts, newsletters, etc.)

Long Blurb (282 words):

On September 22, 2018, join hundreds of thousands of people at sites throughout the country and take part in NEEF’s 25th annual National Public Lands Day (NPLD), sponsored by national corporate sponsor Toyota. National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer effort for public lands. NEEF uses the day to connect people to public lands and their communities, inspire environmental stewardship, and encourage use of public lands for education, recreation, and general health.

This year, NEEF is highlighting the resilience of public lands. Last year, floods, wildfire, and severe storms caused several NPLD event hosts to cancel or change their plans. Others leveraged NPLD volunteers to restore and rebuild damaged parks and other outdoor spaces. In 2018, NEEF is giving a nod to land managers and others who steward these special places and keep us coming back for more.

Each year, NPLD volunteers provide tens of millions of dollars’ worth of services in one day that would otherwise take limited park staff months to accomplish. Bring your family, friends, neighbors, classmates, students, or coworkers to spend the day outdoors giving back to your community by pulling invasive species, maintaining trails, picking up trash, and more.

Many NPLD celebrations go beyond volunteer events to include recreational and educational activities, like hikes, bike rides, paddling, bird watching, and water quality testing. To encourage people to join the fun, NPLD is a fee-free day for national parks and most other federal public lands, state parks, and other local places.

NPLD events are free, and open to people of all ages and abilities. To learn more, register an event, or find an event near you, visit NEEFusa.org/NPLD. Follow NPLD on Twitter and Facebook for the updates and share your own NPLD activities with #NPLD and #NEEF25thNPLD.
