National Public Lands Day
National Public Lands Day is September 24, 2022!
NEEF's National Public Lands Day (NPLD) is the nation's largest single-day volunteer event for public lands. Established in 1994 and held annually on the fourth Saturday in September, this celebration brings out thousands of volunteers to help restore and improve public lands around the country. NPLD is also a “Fee-Free Day”—one of only five days a year when entrance fees are waived at national parks and other public lands.
This year, the theme for NPLD is Giving Back Together. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, America's public lands acted as a safe haven for recreation, conversation, and the simple enjoyment of being outside the confines of our homes. In a time of disconnectedness and uncertainty, the outdoors brought people together and deepened our appreciation for the important role these spaces play in our lives. Now it's time for us to return the favor.
Join us on Saturday, September 24, 2022, as we celebrate the 29th annual National Public Lands Day and renew our commitment to securing a safer and healthier world for ourselves, our children, and generations to come. On this page, you'll find resources for registering an NPLD event, tips for hosting an in-person or virtual event, a map for locating NPLD events near you, and so much more.
Start making your NPLD plans now and we'll see you on September 24!
PLEASE NOTE: For federal site managers requesting fee-free coupons, the deadline is August 5, 2022

NEEF's annual National Public Lands Day celebration is the largest single-day volunteer effort for America’s public lands. Each year, hundreds of thousands of volunteers come together on the fourth Saturday in September to assist land managers with environmental projects designed to enhance and restore national parks, recreation areas, wildlife refuges, and other public lands and waters.
On behalf of our federal, state, and local partners, we would like to thank everyone who donated their time to improving public lands at an NPLD event. Through your hard work, you have helped preserve public lands for future generations to enjoy. View the yearly impacts of 2019, 2020, and 2021.
